Another case of beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib Ji from the last six months has been recorded in the state of Punjab. The incident took place in Bathinda where the suspect was staying at the tenth floor of DD Mittal Tower since October 2021.The culprit has been named as Ravinderpal Kaur, wife of Dr. Mandeep Singh Bhullar who has been staying in America while her children have been staying in New Zealand.
CULPRIT: RAVINDERPAL KAUR
From the trusted sources, it has been reported that the incident has further led to the anger among the Sikh community and even the other Prabandhak Committees. An F.I.R has been lodged in her name under section 295 A depicting malicious acts to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting the religion or religious beliefs.
With the further investigation taking place at the residence, it has been revealed that the pages of the Guru Granth Sahib ji were torn into pieces while the cover was hidden under the bed. Also, the neighbors doubted the lady as she was never seen much outside in the block and it was noticed by one of the bystanders that the torn pages were coming up from the tenth floor (where the culprit stayed).
Ravinderpal Kaur (the culprit) has been in the police custody since 17th May, 2022. According to the police force, she was presented in the district court on 19th May, 2022, where her bail was canceled. Therefore, the second hearing will take place on 2nd June, 2022 in the Session Court, Bathinda.
Though if we take a look at the previous events of insulting the holy book of the Sikhs that have taken place in the nation, a proper action has never been taken against any of the culprits. The Guru Granth Sahib has been targeted since the 1978 Nirankari Clash, where the Sant Nirankari opposed the belief in the spiritual Guru, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which resulted in disrespect of the Holy Book and killing of Sikh Community. The event gave birth to the Blue Star Operation in 1984.
BEADBI INCIDENT IN 1978
Moreover, in 2015, the saroops of Guru Granth Sahib Ji were stolen in the Village Jawahar Singh Wala, district Faridkot. This incident hurt the sentiments of the followers of the Granth Sahib Ji. The Holy Book was under the responsibility of Gurmeet Ram Rahim (Dera Sacha Sauda). The streets were flooded with posters challenging the community to fight “Ik tuhade baap nu assi chakkeya” meaning “We have stolen your father (Guru Granth Sahib Ji)”
BEADBI INCIDENT IN 2015
The saroops were torn and scattered all around the district. But no investigation was continued and the culprits are still wandering around freely. In February 2017, torn pages from the Sikh holy book containing Gurbani paras were found in an open drain at Khalra village in Tarn Taran.
During the farmers' protest in 2021, members of the sikh community hacked off a 32 year old man for allegedly desecrating the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy book. With the recent years’ elections, a man in his twenties jumped off the railing and went near the area where the Guru Granth Sahib Ji has been placed in the Golden Temple. He also tried to fight with one of the swords donated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji. The man was beaten to death by the sevadars and further investigated that the man resided in Uttar Pradesh.
With innumerable sacrilege events of the Holy Book of the Sikh, no investigation has taken place and moreover, the culprits have never been put behind bars after committing such crimes.
